The LGBT Movement: What The Bible Has to Say

If there's a movement that's rapidly rising, it's the LGBT movement. Although only about 4.1% of the U.S population are professing homosexuals, this little group of people have managed to make big waves.

Whether it's through social media campaigns, popular television shows, or government laws, the LGBT movement has made it very clear that they do not plan on bowing down to Christ's Lordship.

One of the most startling areas that this movement has affected is the church. Today we have denominations that go by the name "Affirming Church" meant to not only allow homosexual behavior but also encourage it. We even have television preachers scared to call this sin by it's rightful name.

However, no matter how hard this movement tries, God's word stands clear on the matter. There was never a time in biblical history when homosexuality wasn't condemned.

As John MacArthur rightly points out:

God's condemnation of homosexuality is abundantly clear—He opposes it in every age.
- In the patriarchs (Genesis 19:1-28)

- In the Law of Moses (Leviticus 18:22; 20:13)

- In the Prophets (Ezekiel 16:46-50)

- In the New Testament (Romans 1:18-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Jude 7-8)
The bible is profoundly clear that those who practice homosexuality without repentance will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

Understanding God's Holy Love

Whenever the topic of homosexuality comes up, some professing Christians have a hard time understanding how a God of love can hate something so seemingly innocent. Well for starters, as innocent as the homosexual movement seems, it's actually in direct opposition against God's good plan for love, marriage and family. Marriage was created to mirror the image of Christ and His church.

The LGBT movement is not only at war with marriage itself, but with the beautiful image of the gospel. We can't afford to be naive to this evil agenda.

If you read through Isaiah and Revelations, you'll notice something very interesting, the angels circling God's throne aren't singing "loving loving loving." They're definitely not singing "tolerant tolerant tolerant." No, instead they sing "holy holy holy, is the Lord God almighty." (Revelation 4:1-8; Isaiah 6:3)

Holiness isn't just another attribute that God has, no, holiness is what God is. When he's angry, it's a holy anger. When he's sad, it's a holy sadness, and when he loves, it's a holy love.

This is why a God of love can still hate homosexuality. Because it flows against his own holy nature.

Love Without Truth Isn't Really Love

Instead of confronting the sin of homosexuality head on with the truth, many claiming Christians have decided to bow down to the god of tolerance and "love" those living in the bondage of homosexual sin.

But is love without truth really love?

If you knew your best friend was about to do something that would harm her wouldn't you let her know?

If we really want to love those who have fallen victim to the LGBT agenda, than we will tell them the truth. Not because we're sinless, not because we're "better", but because we truly love them and want to spend eternity in God's holy presence with them.

Let Marriage Be Held in Honor

As Christians, we need to be leaders in championing God's design for marriage. God didn't make a mistake creating marriage to be between one woman and one man. His plan is ultimately for our good and his glory.

The bible never recognizes gay marriage. It only speaks about homosexuality. By biblical definition, for a marriage to be a marriage, it must be between one woman and one man.

If a same-sex couple gets "married" they are just living in habitual sin. And without repentance, sin is condemned with death. To make this abundantly clear here are the verses written out. Remember, this is the bible-- our ultimate source of authority. Do not let your feelings shape your truth, allow scripture's truth to shape your feelings:

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, bold added)
"For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error." (1 Romans 1:26-28)

The Good News

The good news is this: God offers forgiveness for every sin to those who repent (turning away from their sin) and cling to the gospel. That's why getting the truth out about homosexuality is so important.

When we don't offer the truth, we rob people of the opportunity to repent.

Let's be lights in a dark, confused and lost world. Let's place God's truth up on a pedestal for all to hear. Let's stop being ashamed of God's good plan. And let's let His truth set us free!
